Designed for interaction with other players and the tops of decks. Might benefit from a +2 action card. Shanty town would fit the theme.

Very slow at first, especially with repeated 5-draws, as Tribute is the only 5-cost card worth buying. It picks up though, and the Swindler ruled the day with trashing Provinces.

All that trashing province with swindler does is make fewer provinces. You have to replace with a card of same cost that you choose. Another Province is the only same cost card. Or, am I missing something?

A few rounds showed that there may be some depth here. Looking forward to another few plays of this one.

I haven't had the opportunity to play in so long. I like the theme here. Seems that it would ramp up slowly. The earlier comment about possibly putting a +2 action card (Shanty Town) in might work to pick up the pace earlier, however, which card would you replace?

The earlier comment about possibly putting a +2 action card (Shanty Town) in might work to pick up the pace earlier, however, which card would you replace? This game was part of a slew of games with no +2 actions, created in reaction to earlier random games ridiculously long turns where I almost fell asleep. I've become a slightly bigger fan of chaining actions since. I would probably replace Chancellor with Native Village (rather than Shanty Town) -- would tie well to the theme.

It seems thief has no play here.

Played a casual 4 player game. None of us figure out how to use the Chancellor or Navigator effectively. They were used as "punishments" when the Swindler hit a 3 or 4 cost card; similar to the Curse when it hit the Coppers. Maybe a +2 actions card would help the Navigator.

I would open masquerade/silver, and just by money from there. Possibly a swindler would be good too. @jhedstrom: When Swindler Trashes a province, in this case, you have to replace it with another province.

It is true that Secret Chamber is a decent defense against swindler
jhedstrom2012-12-27
@monty it's true that when a Swindler trashes a Province, one can only replace it with another Province, but if that person is already in the lead, this accelerates the end of the game, making it harder for people behind to catch-up.

Ah. Just wanted to be sure you were clear on the rules. It's also really annoying when peddler and swindler are out, since you can swindle a province into a peddler (or if the peddlers are bought out, as they often are, a swindler would have to turn a peddler into a province)
